A Research and Development (R&D) Center of the country’s famous pharmaceutical company- The Searle Company Limited- (TSCL) was inaugurated at the ICCBS Technology Park and Technology Incubation Center, University of Karachi on Thursday November 9, 2017. Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman, former Federal Minister of Science & Technology, and former Chairman HEC, Chief Executive Officer TSCL Syed Nadeem Ahmed, and Director ICCBS Prof.Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary jointly uncovered the curtain of a plaque fixed at the building of the ICCBS technology park.
On the occasion, international guests, attending the MMDR Symposium at ICCBS, were also present. Expressing his views on the occasion, Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman said that the establishment of the research and development center will significantly accelerate the development, and release of national innovative pharmaceutical to the market.Modern R&D Center is an important step to develop the healthcare and Pharmaceutical industry, which on the one hand is an indicator of the state social and economic development and on the other hand will support effective academia-industry linkage.
Syed Nadeem Ahmed appreciated the efforts of the ICCBS for taking the right step to develop the linkages between industry and academia. Prof. Iqbal Choudhary said it was a great moment for the international center and Searle to work together on the development of new drugs and biological for common people.
Both organizations had already made an agreement to collaborate in the areas of bio-equivalence studies and clinical trial projects to strengthen the pharmaceutical industry. Bio-equivalence studies are very important for the development of a pharmaceutical preparation in the pharmaceutical industry, he said. Other officials of the ICCBS and higher-ups of The Searle Company also attended the opening ceremony.
This initiative will enable us to explore more technical and scientific projects in several dimensions such as Pharmaceuticals, Bio-pharmaceuticals and Clinical Research. This is the first time in the history of Pakistan that a Pharmaceutical company is setting up a dedicated research center with leading institute.
